Jerry's Story

I joined the Air Force right out of HS. I spent a year in Denver going to tech school for nuclear weapons, where I met my wife, Bonnie. We went to Okinawa and lived in a little Japanese apartment just outside Kadena AFB. Several other enlisted (AF and Army) non-career GIs lived there with their families. It was fun. I was assigned to the 398 Tac Missile Group and put on a combat launch crew. I was there for 18 months. We had two sons who have both made us proud. Both have good jobs and families. Our oldest, Jay, is a director at Marriott Vacation Club. His office is at the beautiful Marriott Newport Coast Villas in Newport Beach, CA. Our youngest, Dean, is a national manager for Glovis International. You've probably never heard of the company, but they do all the logistics and shipping for all the Kia and Hyundai cars. They have blessed us with five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. After graduating from Santa Ana College, I joined the LAPD. I worked in 6 of the 18 divisions. While working Hollywood division, I was wounded (slightly) in the face during a shootout with two home invasion & GTA robbers. The adult shooter got six years, the juvenile (?). I was awarded the Medal of Valor, which included a lunch sponsored by the LA Chamber of Co...Expand for more
mmerce. The highlights of that day were Jack Web being the MC and a trip to Dodgers Stadium, where I got (along with six other award winners that year for different actions) to sit in the dugout with Steve Garvey, Ron Cey, and the likes. A few years later, I got a job as an applications developer with Riverside County. I used VB, VBA, and SQL languages. I was able to retire from Riverside as a master developer. Bonnie and I were able to do some traveling. We took several overnight trips to Catalina, flew to Hawaii, went to Niagara Falls (Canada side) my wife's favorite, cruised the Inland Passage to Alaska (my favorite), went to New York NY. where we and stood on the top of the World Trade Center. I didn't realize how special that would become. We toured up and down the East Coast and Europe. In 2009 my wife, Bonnie, suffered a hemorrhagic stroke. She was completely paralyzed on her left side and weakened on her right side. She required 100% assistance and home care. I provided that for her. She was able to hold on for seven years; the Drs gave her only a few months. It turned out to be a good and special time for us. Bonnie slowly got weaker, and on 7/21/2016, she peaceably passed away at home. So, after 50 years of marriage, I'm a reluctant bachelor.

Dodgers choosing to honor this in a pre-game ceremony has nothing to do with "inclusion." These people are monsters, and it is the direction they want to take our children. This is blatantly anti-Cathlic and is just as anti
